What is Keto?

You hear people talk about starting a Keto diet, but you’re probably asking yourself “Why??”  To some this sounds like another Atkin’s diet fad that’s going by the wayside, but there’s actually a lot of evidence that this lifestyle change is the way to go (and for several reasons)

What is Keto?

To put it simply, Ketogenic diet (or Keto for short) is a low carb-high fat diet.  The idea is that your body typically burns carbs and turns them into glucose for energy.  Going low carb allows your body to kick into gear (producing ketones, which are used as a backup fuel in case your body is running low on carbs) and start burning stored fat cells for energy instead, allowing the weight loss a lot of people tend to look for in a diet.  The problem is that going into this too quickly can result in keto flu, where you body can’t quite make the shift from carb burning to ketosis.

Why Keto?

Research shows that the Keto diet is helpful in battling certain types of cancers, Alzheimer’s Disease, and plenty of other ailments.  The removal of most carbs allows for the absence of majorly processed foods.  Decreased hunger, improved focus, more energy are just a small sampling of the benefits people experience when they switch to a Keto diet.

I will share articles in the future with more tips on going Keto, as well as recipes and personal stories as my wife and I journey towards a better lifestyle.
