Double Jaw Surgery = 35lbs Down and New Positive Eating Habits
TL;DR - I had massive jaw surgery and lost a bunch and weight and it helped me change my bad eating habits.
In 2018 I lost roughly 36lbs using CICO and working out. On Jan 2, 2019 I had double jaw surgery for a really bad case of TMJ. My mouth was wired shut for 3-ish weeks then rubber bands replaced the wires for another 5-ish weeks. To be honest I don't remember much of January. I have been on a liquid/no chew/soft food diet going on 3 months now. You would be surprised how many calories you can suck through a straw and what tastes good blended up!
I was told by the surgeon it's expected to lose 10-15% percent of your body weight during recovery. Considering I was already floating in 320-340lb range I wasn't mad. I made extra effort to eat what I needed to heal properly. I wasn't starving myself but I wasn't noming down loads of stuff either. During the whole ordeal my appetite slowed down and I was full on less food. I also haven't gone out much, which is a huge temptation for eating bad foods.
I stepped on the scale this morning and saw a 2 in front of my weight...not a 3. In my adult life I never remember seeing a 2, ever. I've always gotten close within a pound or two but never actually made it. I'm down 35lbs now.
I'm still working on eating solid foods (what I wouldn't give for raw veggies right now!!!) but I have developed a habit of eating smaller portions and much less frequently.
Before anyone decides this is a great idea for weightloss (a few people have said that jokingly) this has been THE hardest physical thing I have ever gone through. The pain, the inability to eat, unable to talk, sleeping is hell, and I'm not even gonna talk about the crazy metal brackets I had woven into my gums. It happened to be I was/am morbidly obese and had a surgery on my jaw which in turn helped me change my eating habits.
