Information Overload- Confused where to start: Fight stubborn fat and need health eating choices (calories seem low at 1200)
Hello! I'm posting this question on this thread because I've done SO SO much research on the internet and reddit about nutrition, diet choices, weight loss programs, etc that when I sit down to create my own goals for myself, I'm completely confused on where to start. I'm very close to hiring an online trainer or nutritionist or macro coach just to have someone point me in the right direction or at least talk to. I'm hoping experts here can help me with my questions OR if I need someone to talk to in person, I can get your wonderful suggestions! A little bit about me: I'm a 40 year old female, 5"2' at 145lbs. I work out often, about 4 days a week. I mix it up with fitness class type exercises, and I'm currently (while I'm at home for Covid), doing home F45 HIIT workouts, some Peloton, and F45 strength. The last body scan I did in January has me at 25% body fat. My body type is muscular/ thick- sports player when younger, always active but carry some body fat evenly distributed around my body but mainly around my thighs and stomach area. I like my body-- I'm pretty much "skinny fat"-- but I know that I could lose a bit more weight and tone myself up more if I wanted to.
And I want to start with my diet. I've always been a healthy eater about 85% of the time. Weekdays I have salads for lunch and a protein with veggies type dinner. On weekends-- I like to indulge a little more. I'll add more carbs (but I don't binge). I don't eat sweets (just not a dessert type of person since a child), but if I do indulge it will be like noodles or a little pasta, alcohol/wine, fries, etc.
My problem is I know I work out quite often, and I try to eat as healthy as I can but I'm still not toned to where I want to be and I've been at this weight for quite awhile. I want to make some differences in my life so I can notice some weight loss and maintain it. Is it food or is it the exercise I'm doing? I have no idea. So I thought I'd start with my diet... let me preface by saying I felt really great when I was Keto a couple of years ago before my wedding. But I think Keto is too hard to maintain for the long term. I like Keto food but for someone with my height and my low required calorie count, any nibble of carbs will the scale off.
Then I looked into CICO -- my TDEE is 1537 and my target calorie for weight loss is 1037 <<< I couldn't believe how low it is!! I feel like I will starve!! However, I've been doing a blend of Keto with a 1200 CICO target goal starting this week to jump start, and I'm feeling pretty ok. Anyway, HERE'S MY QUESTION FOR THIS REDDIT COMMUNITY
-
Am I eating too low of calories even though this is what I've been calculated online? 1200? I've been targeted on instagram and facebook by trainers or so called "nutritionists" about "training less and eating more" and having a program created for me to both lose weight, tone up, and stop restricting my diet. Sadly, I asked for a quote, and I was quoted over $1,200+ for a 12 week program. It's a lot of money for me BUUUUUUT if it helps me and it's worth it, then should I give it a shot?
-
Do I need to do both Keto / CICO or just one or the other? I'm not sure if my metabolism has slowed down (or how to measure if it has) because I keep switching back and forth from low carb to more carbs on the weekends
-
Or do I need to just stay away from Keto and eat more carbs?
-
Or do I need to change my exercise regimen? (Kind of hard right now due to Covid, but I'm willing to do what I can).
As you can see, me looking for answers on my own just gave me more questions than I started with. There are TONS of information on what diet works/ exercise, etc. that I just don't know what to do for my own body to just lose 15 lbs and tone up and stay that way for good. I need to find what works for me and feel that maybe a professional is the way to go to ease my confusion, but if I could avoid the expense, that's better. But if I should seek a professional, does anyone have suggestions? Thank you!
