Discouraged - am I really, truly missing out on much by being obese?

I have been slowly gaining weight over the last five years, and it has happened so gradually that I can hardly remember what it was like to be a normal weight. Luckily, I haven't had any adverse side effects yet. For my height and body type, a healthy body weight would be in the 200-210 lb range; I am currently 310.

I know in the back of my mind that I should lose weight for the sake of my health and quality of life, but I am having a hard time working up the motivation to start because I don't feel that I am missing out on much my being overweight. People that have lost a significant amount of weight, what made it worth it for you?
