I will never ever stop doing the ketogenic diet, and these pictures are why.
Hi guys! Here's my story: I decided to cut back on my carbs in April, when I finally faced the music and realized it wasn't possible that all of my pants shrunk in the wash: I'd gained some weight. And the truth is, I was eating like shit every single day.
Well, cutting back on carbs gradually turned into cutting them out, for the most part. After lurking on the /r/keto sub for a while and incorporating all of the incredible advice there into my lifestyle, I am now the proud owner of...abs? I'm lightly active (live in a big city & walk a lot) but nowhere near active enough to develop abs. Yet, simply following this diet has somehow made them appear!!!! I have NEVER been so excited!!! I'm not sure how much weight I've lost (I don't weigh myself, it breeds negative energy for me, but if I had to guess I'd say around 110) but I am 5'1 so it could be less than it actually appears. Now without further ado, from April to now, my before & after pics -- the first was taken mid-April, and the most recent were taken at Governor's Ball last weekend. The rest are in order of progress!
If any of you are interested in learning more about the keto diet, feel free to message me or drop any questions here. My top three tips for getting started:
-
Never stop drinking water. Most of the time we're actually thirsty when we think we're hungry -- water will fill you up, stop any temporary cravings (a good rule of thumb I use is that if you wouldn't eat an apple or other equivalent healthy snack, you're bored, not hungry), and make your skin look amazing. It also helps me with bloating from sodium and is overall an important step when it comes to losing weight.

Learn how to prepare a few simple, delicious meals. ANYBODY can learn how to put together a basic stir-fry or salad or one-pan recipe. Even if things don't turn out amazing the first time, cooking is something that requires practice, and you will improve the more you do it. Why cook? So that you know exactly what is going into your food. So that you can always have something healthy and low-carb on hand (leftovers or meal prep). So that you never have an excuse for ordering take out. Trust me, cooking is fun. If you're really intimidated, check out the excellent Youtube channel Binging With Babish -- it features a "basics of cooking" series that covers a wide variety of cooking-related knowledge, from spices to sauces to different cuts of meat.

Tell everyone you're going to lose the weight. This one might be controversial, but I can honestly say it's what kept me on track. Every single person in my life knew that I planned to lose weight. I made it very clear to them: I said, "I am going to lose this weight." For me, the thought of not having enough focus to just fucking lose the weight after telling everybody and their mother that I would was utterly humiliating. Plus, now people know that I'm the kinda person who sticks to their word -- which is not a bad bonus.
I hope you guys found this helpful and are considering trying keto. It's a struggle at first, but I will literally never go back to the way things were before again. It's a lifestyle change for sure.
