Is 1200 cal really the minimum? Also, petite people, how do you make your calories count?

I'm 5'1.5" (5'2" on a good day), and I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the deficit I need and eventually maintenance calories. I'm looking at 1000-1200 calories for loss. I have an office job, so I've started taking an hour-long barre class 2-3 times a week and adding in spinning just so I can eat more... and I still get people who are concerned I'm not eating enough. You hear that you need 1200 calories a day minimum... is that true though for petite people? I mean... my freaking BMR is 1300.

And for the other petite people... how do you get the most bang for your buck for a sustainable change? I've started adding a ton more veggies to everything so I can eat more volume with less calories. I know about /r/1200isplenty and /r/1500isplenty (and yes even /r/vegan1200isplenty) but I wanted to know what a day in your life looks like. Thank you for your input!
