*PSA* With lots of recipes calling for squash, Don't microwave it!
I know this is against the rules, but felt like this should be shared with this community. Hoping the mods keep it up - really could save someone from a lot of pain. From a nurse friend on fb:
"I almost never post things like this but I truly feel like I need to make people aware of this. Yesterday I decided to try to cook spaghetti squash for the first time. I knew it was very difficult to cut into, and the recipe I was using advised these instructions to soften it before cutting in half. [picture of recipe] DO NOT DO THIS! I spent my night in the ER and just got home from an appointment with a plastic surgeon after the spaghetti squash exploded and burned my entire face. Poking holes with a fork was not enough. As soon as I started to cut it the squash exploded, covering me and my entire kitchen. I’m lucky to just have some swelling and blisters that will hopefully heal just fine. The pain subsided finally about 6 hours and some meds later. Just please be careful if you’re trying to make some delicious, low carb dinner. No microwaves for these hard skinned veggies!"
edit: The recipe called for microwaving a whole squash before cutting
