Best milk substitute (so far)
tldr; heavy cream + coconut milk, 1:2 ratio
I've missed milk these last few years. A gulp or two here or there just reminds me how much I like it. Peanut butter and Spam just isn't the same without milk. But, alas, milk is not keto friendly.
I've tried Almond milk a few times, but didn't like the flavor.
Adding water to heavy cream didn't work either. Blech!
However, I stumbled on Real Coco coconut milk at Costco the other day. Turns out the coconut flavor is pretty mild, although the milk itself is really thin.
I added some heavy cream and found so far the best tasting and most satisfying milk replacement. I'm still toying with the right ratio, but 2:1 coconut milk to heavy cream seems to get me the most-like-whole-milk consistency.
It's not as sweet as regular milk, but like many ketonians I prefer stuff much less sweet than I used to. A little bit of sweetener or stevia wouldn't hurt, methinks.
