Dry January is over ... should I keep going?

Cross posting from r/1200isplenty

First time poster. I’ve been doing dry January as well as 1200 calories for the last month and I’ve already lost 9 pounds. I’m pretty amazed at my progress, and that’s with very little change to my exercise. (A few yoga classes, I’ll get there). Not drinking felt great, I had more energy, slept better, saved money, and it wasn’t as hard to stick to as I was expecting.

So now February is here... I no longer have the convenient excuse of dry January to tell my friends. I’m pretty socially active, and I live in New York, where bars are pretty much the default hangout spot. Part of me wants to keep going, but the other part that’s been counting calories is like, if I just stick to vodka sodas I should be able to keep my intake below 1200. I know it’s healthier to keep not drinking, and there are probably ways it has kept my cravings in check that I don’t even realize. But it sucks to be hanging out with friends and yawning on the dance floor because I don’t have the drink to keep me going. And I’m worried it’s an extreme lifestyle change that will eventually blow up in my face and I’ll swing back.

To be clear, I’m not an alcoholic. I have friends who are in the program. I do like to party on occasion, but even when I was drinking I was not the kind of person to drink every night.

Anyone else in this dilemma?
