I'm going to start calling out people for their unsolicited advice
So as a fat person one thing that I've allowed to hold me down in the past is unsolicited advice. From strangers calling me fat or telling me how to lose weight, or cheering me on as I leave the gym (yes I litterally had a man tell me as I was walking away from the gym that "you gotta take it one day at a time" or telling me what is or isn't healthy. I get that people believe they are being helpful but forcing their opinions of my body and life on me has only ever been hurtful.
I'm commited to standing up for myself from now on. I know as I lose weight it's only going to get worse because I'm going to attract the ire of other fat people who feel that they have failed (they have not) and they lash out at me in the guise of helping me.
I'm posting this because I know I'm not alone. There are dozens of articles about this online. I think it's just good to remind ourselves that yes we have every got right to be annoyed and that being fat does not mean you need to accept the advice of others.
