I’ve barely moved a muscle in years
Hello all....long story short-ish
I’m a 6 foot 2, 38 year old male who has a desk job in front of a computer all day. When I’m not working, I’m in front of a TV as I barely go out. I wash thin until Middle School then from that age through high school I was chubby but not fat. In college I got to 262 pounds. Then in my early-mid 20’s, I lost 80 pounds. 40 from a standard low fat/calorie diet then the other 40 doing the Atkins diet. I also used to be an athlete. I played basketball most days, as well as ran and lifted weights. I held the weight off for a few years then the wheels fell off lol. I gained all my weight back plus and now I’m about 310 pounds.
I joined a nice gym a year ago and have gone zero times. I have a lot of health problems (high BP, cholesterol, and I’m almost at the point of having diabetes). I’ve come to the conclusion I don’t want to have a stroke and die. My blood work is really good, although it’s all cause of the meds. I don’t exercise and eat terribly.
My main goal now, is to get into somewhat decent shape. Decent as in not being out of breath walking up and down the stairs. I want to eventually get back into weights etc but that’s a long term goal. My knees aren’t great (even when I was young and in good shape). My plan is to go to the gym, ride a bike of some sort, get some actual stamina and go from there. Is a ‘bike” a good start? If I ran on a treadmill for example, I’d last 30 secs.
So after all that...is a “bike” of some sort a good start? Or would another exercise be the way to start. Again...my first goal is to get some sense of stamina so I can exercise like a normal human being one day. My gym is only a year old and from what I see in the window lol, has lot of machines and prob have everything I’d need.
Any advice would be appreciated!
