Maintenance Monday: On chickens, eggs and activity levels
Hello all!
Today, I've got a question from u/satisphoria for you all to consider:
What factors go into maintaining your current weight? I like the saying 'my best [maintenance] weight is whatever weight I reach when I'm living my healthiest life I actually enjoy', and I'm interested in what this looks like for others. So someone might choose to maintain at a higher weight than they've been before, because they have a weekly date/board game/poker night where they want to eat more. Another person might have experimented with active hobbies to find something they'd enjoy doing three times per week to eat the same amount while staying at a lower weight. And some people might be able to maintain lower, or have made the active choice to maintain higher, based on their job's activity or lack of. It's a kind of chicken and egg scenario: which gets the most input into people's current weight goal from the weight, the TDEE, or the activity levels?
For me it's definitely the TDEE at the moment, but that's totally because I've been barred from exercise. When I could still run the activity levels definitely played a part, because I had to eat more so I could run better (and not get exercise migraines). I also paid more attention to what I ate (carbs & proteins), mostly post-run, though I've never been too obsessed with my macro's.
So that's me. What about the rest of you?
