I told myself last year that 2019 would be different
I didn't want to start a New Year in the same place, and a few pounds closer to 400. Last year, I weighed 391 pounds. I was so afraid that I would cross 400, and not be able to turn things around. Getting closer to 40, I knew it would only get harder, and I didn't want to leave my 30s with the same weight and bad habits.
I decided to start the process with a bariatric surgeon, and after months of dieting and going through tests, I was finally cleared to have my surgery in August. I had the GSV procedure (Gastric Sleeve) in late August. My pre-GSV weight was 385. As of today, I'm down to 302, and closing in on a major milestone.
I can give you excuses as to why it got so bad before I decided to do something, but I'm not going to. I ate the wrong things, too much of them, and didn't exercise. I told myself that my family, job, and other distractions were more important. There's nothing more important than taking care of yourself. If you can't take care of yourself, then you won't be around long, or someone else is going to have to take care of you.
The surgery along with diet and exercise have changed my life. I'm ~100 days post-GSV, and my focus is on CICO. I get around 500 calories a day, and try to walk 3-4 times a week. Some weeks I get 6-7 walks in/week, but with work and business travel it's sometimes hard to fit it in. I haven't felt this good since I was a teenager, and I'm not even done yet.
