Any tips on obese DOGS? Please help if you know about animals.
So first off, I had no idea where to even post anything like this so I’m sorry if this is weird. My dog needs help so if anyone has tips please help! I just adopted a severely obese chihuahua this morning. Her adoption ad said she was a little overweight but when I saw her today it broke my heart. Her belly is so big she can’t even walk and she can’t breath and is always heavily panting/gasping for air. I’m assuming her healthy body weight should be around 7-10 pounds and right now she’s a good 25 pounds at LEAST. I know she is scared right now because she is in a new environment and not with the family she grew up with. The person I got her from said she just didn’t have time to walk her or set feeding schedules so she just always leaves a bowl of food out for her. Her other dog who has cancer takes up a lot of her time and she just can’t care for her now that she has gotten to this size. I have no idea how to help her lose weight because I took her on a small walk down the isle at petsmart and she just couldn’t handle it and laid down gasping for air before we made it 20 feet. It’s very hot where I live so I know walking her outside in 100° weather would probably put too much stress on her breathing. She has a vet appointment this Sunday so she can be up to date on her vaccinations and make sure nothing serious is wrong. Idk what to do with her and any advice would be appreciated.
