Successful diet so far but dinners killing me, erasing good lowcal lunches, considering meal delivery services?
Evening all! Just joined the community and wanted to pick everyone's brain here. I've read the FAQ and do think this is worth a full post. If this question still should go to the daily Q&A, please delete and I'll be happy to post it there.
Long and short, I'm a 31M, 5'10'' SW:270 / CW: 236 / GW: 200. My journey is that back in 2017 I began a diet taking me from 270 all the way down to 228 through using LoseIt!'s calorie counting daily and (I'll be generous) sporadic exercise. I maintained within about 6 pounds or so of that bottom for about a year. Naturally, I gained most of that back through the dual pressures of quarantine and studying for my state's bar exam and so went up to a 260 top end.
I began calorie counting anew on March 1 and went from 260 to my current of hovering around 236 or so. I'm finding my biggest impediment is my evening meals. For lunch, I'm a big fan of the HealthyChoice Steamers, Saffron Road microwave meals (seriously, some great South and East Asian meals all below 400 calories but with a ton of flavor. Get'em if you can!), and store-bought salads. These have been the key so far.
My evenings are much rougher as I find myself wanting to take advantage of the myriad dining options around me. My apartment complex even has an attached bar/restaurant that delivers to the door like room service. I've avoided those for the most part through cost arguments. Oftentimes this comes because I don't get to the grocery as often as I should.
But even when I do, I find the meals that I'm actually able to cook with my meager talents are way too caloric intensive. Chicken Tikka Masala, Pasta+Protein combos, steaks, hamburgers, etc. are all go-to's but not exactly good options.
My palate is such that I'm fine eating same meals over and over again as I don't tend to get bored with meals. There's stretches where, due to cooking alone, I've had tons of leftovers and eaten the same thing 5 nights in a row.
So knowing that, I was wondering if a meal-deliver service might be best bet. HelloFresh, Freshly, Blue Apron, etc. I've all heard different advice but I'm wondering if any fine members here have had success incorporating those into a calorie-counting weight-loss regime.
Any advice on that front would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks and I hope to submit some progress pics in a few months.
