Is eating unhealthy food always going to be this much work??

I've been on a diet for 5 months. I eat 1200-1500 calories a day and try hard to never go over that. 1500 if I exercise. I do IF 18:6 as well. I have lost 55 pounds but still have a way to go.

My diet is basically salmon/chicken/tofu and salads. I don't really deviate much from that, barely any carbs. Occasional protein drink.

I recently had a family event where I decided I would eat a bit more including carb heavy food. I couldn't really eat my normal diet because I would be accused of starving myself lol.

I prepared by eating only 600 calories the day before and doing an extra couple miles for a run.

I don't know how much I ate but it was a lot. I felt really guilty after because I went way over my calorie limit for the first time. When I stepped on the scale the next day I had put on FIVE POUNDS.

Even when I did all that preparation before I still gained that, I know it's mostly water weight but it's still very discouraging. The next day I had to fast, and it's now two days later and my weight is finally back to where it was.

Is this normal? Will I ever be able to indulge in food without all this compensation? At this point I just avoid these situations which is sad but I don't want to go out for a meal with my friends and sit there with a salad.

Edit for refernce I am 6'1 male 229 pounds, age 24
