Only successfully lose a few pounds per year
I (f18, 173/5'8) used to weigh about 104kg/235 pounds at my highest. That was 4 years ago, and now as of today I weigh 94kg/208 pounds. Losing 10 kg/27 pounds took me 4 years. It usually went like this: 4 years ago, when I decided to lose weight, at the very start my weight would fluctuate between 104-106 kg. Then one day, out of nowhere I hit 102 kg, (maybe because the day before I ate very little) this kind of inspired me and then I managed to get down to 101, 100 and after like a few months I was 99 kg. But this is where my scale stopped budging. I was stuck at 99 for like half a year if not more, and then suddenly I was 98 kg. After hitting that, I stayed that weight for more than a year (still sometimes going up to 99 some days) until suddenly the scale showed 97. After that, my weight fluctuated between 97-98 for a year before like six months or so ago I hit 96, and started fluctuating between 96-97. This summer I managed to get down to 94 kg, but I still fluctuate between 94 and 95 daily.
Is such slow progress due to me not trying hard enough? I don't exercise but I try to limit my calories. At the very start of my journey, I was using CICO but when I got down to 99 and didn't budge for a long time, I stopped and just tried eating intuitively. I don't really exercise, but I don't even know if that would help anyways. When I was 98 kg at the start of 2020 fall, I started going to school, so I was much more physically active than during the summer and I GAINED WEIGHT. Like a few months after, right before covid cases increased and we went into online classes, my scales started showing me 99, 100 and even 101. After I started staying at home, my weight eventually got down to 98 again and even 97 after some time. I really don't understand what happened and fear that that with school starting soon I'll ballon up again :(
I was walking roughly a mile to school and back, would climb lots of stairs back and forth to my 5th floor apartment to walk my dog right after school, and ofc there were P.E. classes. I started thinking that it was just water retention after being a couch potato all summer, but 6 and more weeks went by and I was only steadily gaining.
I don't think I was overeating by overestimating my caloric needs due to increased physical activity. Maybe it was just due to distruption to when I eat? I would have to get up early so there would be no time for breakfast and so, unless I visited my grandma during lunch breaks, which was 2 or 3 times a week on average, I wouldn't eat anything until I got home, which usually was at 4 pm.
Anyways, I don't understand why my loss is so slow. With so few pounds I've lost over such a long time, you'd think that it could be attributed to unintentional weight loss rather than my conscious efforts. Am I just not trying hard enough?
