NSV — with little training, ran a 5K nonstop.

I’ve struggled with my weight most of my life. Never obese, but I was overweight through most of middle school and high school, then post-college in law school.

For years, I always thought that I was just built that way. Turns out that I just needed to learn to stop eating unless I was truly hungry. I’ve made huge strides in my physical fitness in the last six months through mostly portion control, with some exercise.

One thing I do every once in awhile is run two miles. (Losing just 20 pounds has made running much, much easier.) But I’m not a runner and I don’t do it regularly. Yesterday, my family wanted to run the neighborhood 5k. And I did run the whole thing — without stopping once! Had a time of about 10 minutes/mile.

I’m not breaking any records, but it’s cathartic when looking back to the adolescent me who dreaded the mile run in gym class more than anything.
