How much calories or glucose can I lose by using my brain?
Physical exercise is frequently used to measure how much calories can be lost during a certain period of time, and by proxy we can also say something about glucose depletion.
But how about mental “exercise”? My layman understanding says our brain is the biggest sugar user and it makes me wonder how much can I deplete my glucose through my brain?
I notice that I’m relatively more tired working on stuffs that require a lot of thinking or decision making than say just sit down watching Netflix. Sure both are sedentary but I must be burning off more sugar when I work on my laptop thinking about deep intellectual work.
Not saying that this knowledge will replace any physical exercise.
But I’m curious how my brain and its usage contribute to my daily caloric usage.
Are there studies or scientific facts around this?
Thanks!
