need some help, brand new to weight loss!

hi all! i F22 have been steadily gaining weight since quitting varsity swimming in my senior year of high school. i’ve had periods in my life where i was a normal weight (120 at 5’4”) and i felt so good. well, OCD and a mood disorder on top of a serious sugar addiction have wreaked havoc on my body and i am absolutely done with being overweight! i’m at 215 now, and i feel so heavy every day and want my freedom back.

i’ve been getting into eating around 1700 calories a day with lots of protein and fat and i’m seriously cutting back on sweets (e.g. 1-2 cookies instead of 10) but i’m worried about a binge happening and im also confused as to how i should be approaching weight loss/fitness. im seeing some sources online say that a calorie deficit won’t help? that i need to eat sweets when my body tells me to? i’m super unsure of what to do right now. if anyone could offer some insight i’d love to hear it. thanks. :)
