Can you eat so many calories in one day that they are not all metabolized?

Thinking back on my weight loss journey there’s been a few times where I overindulged on food and it got me thinking - is there a point in calories consumed in one day where they can’t all be processed and stored? For example, if I ate 6000 calories will my body retain the whole 6000 calories, or will it keep 5000 and my body will excrete the other 1000? When I was bulking I read that the body can only process so much protein and anything beyond a certain amount isn’t retained and is excreted (Thats a simplified explanation and I know it’s more complicated than that). Wondering if there’s a similar process for calories.
