theory on how cortisol/stress makes weightloss harder

TL;DR: Stop putting so much stress on your body and mind to help yourself reach your goals.

After hearing people say "Oh I'm so stressed about my diet/food intake/training - I don't even lose weight when I'm following everything correctly" way too many times, I seriously thought about it and did some research).

They're simply too stressed to lose weight or for our bodies to change (whatever your goal is... losing fat or building muscle).

When we're stressed our brains release cortisol, the stress hormone. And what does it do? Simply put: it hinders us from reaching the goals we might have (aka building muscle, losing fat), properly.

It doesn't stop us from achieving anything but it does make it a whole lot harder.

When we go on a diet, we are stressed not only because we're mentally always thinking about how to meet our calorie goals/stay under a certain number, but because we also stress about, whether or not our efforts are gonna show.

One thing stress does, what makes it harder again, it makes you crave comfort foods and you might end up binging (even though you're not undereating too low, which would've also resulted in binging - just constantly thinking about it stresses you out and makes you crave it).

Second thing what I've discovered: hunger puts stress on the body. Hunger releases cortisol.

So if you're on a diet, of course you might end up hungry, trying to save some calories. One thing you can do, is eating more volume for less calories, so you don't feel as hungry as if you'd eat the same amount of calories through sweets/fast food. (if that's your struggle go to r/volumeeating)

Second thing I'll try to do (because I'm not even on a diet right now, but I just eat very irregularly, sometimes not at all until after work is done at 5pm), is eating more frequently but smaller portions or just snacking on stuff throughout the day (not sweets though). Which will keep me from becoming really hungry at all.

And many other "programs/tips/tricks" are leading you towards reducing stress surrounding the diet or workouts. Which is why building a sustainable routine towards living healthier most certainly works better than any other crash diet out there. Same with reducing the amount of exercise with "active rest days", overtraining also puts stress on the body.

Lemme hear your thoughts or expand my knowledge surrounding that topic. (I would love to ramble more about how stress feels for our body and what it will do because of it but I feel like this post is already way too long.)
