tips for working up to running? hopefully a 5k by next year?
So I've (24f) always wanted to be a runner but I don't really have the body for it. I have big hips and a lot of lower body fat and a bigger chest. My one knee also got messed up in a rugby game in highschool. I need new shoes and new leggings. I only have converse and my leggings slide down when I run and it inspires a special fury within me when that happens lol.
I've been doing things to work up to running; weight lifting, exercises to improve hip and knee strength and mobility, endurance work on the elliptical, stair master, and bike.
-I'll do 30-60 minutes on the elliptical on level 10 set on random.
-I can be on the stair master for 30 minutes on a lower level, I think it was level 5? Maybe 6?
- I'll also use the bike for an hour at a time set on random and it'll be on level 9 usually.
My question is: -what goals should I set for my machines that could translate well into running on a treadmill? I know none of them are the same but there has to be something I can do?
-how do I know when I should "upgrade" to running?
I'd like to start off well enough to keep the hype going. I don't know when I'll be able to get new shoes and nicer leggings (mom took the sewing machine), I'm saving up for a lot of different things right now and theyre not the biggest priority unfortunately. Such is life. I just feel so frustrated sometimes, I would really like to have running as a hobby soon.
