Gentle reminder that it's okay to maintain. . .

I understand that we all have some serious goals - to some of us (including myself) this is one of the most important things that we'll do in our lives. I'm a habitual binge eater who hit 100lbs in the 2nd grade and never ever reached a weight that would be considered healthy. At my lowest weight that I can remember I was 220lbs which has ballooned into 360lbs in recent years. In about 5 months I'm down 50+ pounds and I've been working really hard during that time but I keep slipping. I'll be good for 2 weeks and then I'll binge, binge, binge, binge, binge. In the last month though, I've practiced something different; if I feel like I'm reaching a breaking point, I take a week to just maintain. The trick to it is that I still keep my control - I don't go out to get fast food, still no pop, still low on carbs but I get to bring out those recipes that are higher in calories, work in some more healthy desserts, and maybe even get my regular latte (but still only once in the week).

Maybe it doesn't seem like it's a big difference, but the psychology around it really is for me. I'm not rewarding those binge cravings, I'm still eating in control, I'm within maintenance, and when the storm has quieted I can more easily lower myself into a deficit again over a week or so without the usual carb and sugar withdrawals. It turns the whole thing into a pause instead of a relapse.

I realize that this may not be right for everyone, but I thought I would share it out to this subreddit just in case it strikes a chord for someone else who is on this journey. Thank you so much to everyone that posts here - it's not always easy to talk about this kind of stuff but y'all inspire those of us that struggle daily.
