Maybe this might help someone here - but I "cured" myself of my intense craving for tart sweets (like sweet tarts and shock tarts) and certain fruits (which I would binge on)
TL;DR: Supplimenting with malic acid did and continues to completely remove my 35+ years intense cravings for tart candy.
Basically I decided that the craving (for me) was not just a preference, but that maybe my body was trying to tell me something. Like maybe I was legit deficient in something in that sort of candy.
When I looked into what sort of uncommon ingredients might be in said candy, the only thing that stuck out was malic acid (whatever the hell that is).
I was surprised that this common food additive was found in small amounts in certain fruits (like apples) and was a legit substance that the body needs.
Anyways, I found the raw powder on amazon and I bought it (very cheap).
I have been taking it now for over a year (about a teaspoon a day) and I have not craved this sort of candy since - to this day.
I had a similar thing happen with pistachios. I had intense cravings for those (expensive little buggers) and I looked up what nutrients they were particularly rich in, and amongst them was magnesium.
I started taking Magnesium L-Threonate (a uncommon form of magnesium that is the sole form known to reach the brain (crossing the BBB - blood brain barrier) and I no longer crave pistachios.
What's more, when I am taking my magnesium they don't even taste particularly good to me.
Anyways, this is one person's experience with this - maybe this will help others or at least foster discussion of a possible connection between overeating and actual body needs for basic nutrients.
