50 Weeks - 36 lbs (Almost a 1 year update)
Well, I have been at this for 50 weeks now. Daily calorie tracking, keeping a log of all the food that I have eaten, and all the daily weigh ins.
I have lost ~36 lbs from my highest weight of 349 lbs. For reference, I am 5’ 5” and 24 years old, and female.
I have been taking it very slow, and it has definitely been worth the wait for the weight to work it’s way off. It has been sustainable and manageable.
I aim for around 1800 calories a day currently, and eat when I am hungry. I also struggle with binge eating and drinking my calories in the form of beer.
Some lessons that I have learned:
-
I am a total data nerd, it’s what I do for a living as a Business Intelligence Software Engineer. I have logs in Libra, MyFitnessPal (laurakgabrielson is me over there), and the TDEE 3.0 excel spreadsheet. In other words, I like to have a place to fall back on if one isn’t available.
-
I need to weigh in every day. If I don’t I get discouraged. I need to see the numbers in my mind so I keep myself accountable.
-
Per weighing daily: I know that my water weight can change drastically from day to day. Sometimes upwards of 7 pounds. This is usually because I had way too much salt the day before, or didn’t drink enough water.
-
My body is a strange thing. I have been so mentally disconnected from the reality of my body for as long as I can remember. I didn’t want to acknowledge the fact that I am a severely obese person.
-
I need to listen to my body and what it wants and is feeling. I now know that my legs are really muscular, and that I don’t really have boobs like most women. My weight is concentrated on my midsection and butt.
-
That being said, I don’t like exercise. I am simply following CICO for the time being until I know that I won’t blow my knee out by trying to run.
-
I have to be my own biggest critic on this journey. I know what I need to do, and I know what needs to happen for me to get there. I do slip up, more often than not, so I try to keep my house cleared out of my trigger foods. I need to meal prep otherwise I will eat literally all junk.
-
The biggest lesson I have learned so far: DRINK. YOUR. GOD. DAMNED. WATER. Otherwise, you will feel like complete shit.
Well, I will attach my instagram, and my view only daily tracking spreadsheet if there are any other data nerds out there that want to look at that. I can also post my old and new drivers license pictures for a good comparison for when I was at ~345.

As always, I am around in here lurking, and try to give advice when possible.
Everyone, love yourself, you’re all you’ve got. <3
