Dirty fish tank dilemma
Imagine that you have a pet goldfish keeps showing signs of lethargy and sickness.
Every time you notice the goldfish isn’t feeling well, you take the gold fish out of the tank, wash up the fish and put them back in the tank. The gold fish swims around all happy and full of vigor.
A short time passes by and the fish begins to show signs of being unwell again. So you take the fish out of the tank so you can clean the fish again. And the fish feels better for short time again. This cycle repeats over and over.
Meanwhile, the tank continues to stay dirty. There’s algae growing on the sides and things aren’t looking too good from the outside looking in. But the fish can’t tell the difference since it’s the only environment they’ve ever known.
It’s not until the tank itself is cleaned and properly cared for that your goldfish will be able to stay healthy and thrive.
That’s the difference between crash dieting, yo-yo dieting, and behavior change models of weight loss.
