Hello all! I’ve lost 16 pounds in 6 weeks! (Tips on how I did it) This post is super long but I’m hoping it reaches someone.
I used to scroll through this subreddit whenever I was feeling motivated to lose weight. If you’re doing that right now, KEEP SCROLLING! I’m an 18 y/o recent high school graduate, thought it was a good time to get healthy. This subreddit is how I found out about CICO. I feel so much better about myself and you can too!!!
My own personal tips: •I track everything I eat with My fitness pal
•When ordering in- I google low calorie options from whatever restaurant I’m eating from.
•I only weigh myself once a week and to make myself feel less tempted I give my scale to someone I trust during the rest of the week.
•I try not to eat alone
•I eat most of my calories during lunch and dinner and keep a low calorie breakfast
•When snacking at night (My binging hour) I always try to entertain myself but not distract myself from my craving. I also allow myself to eat whatever it is I’m craving just in smaller portions. This was hard at first (not eating giant portions of snack foods) but after about 15 minutes I almost always feel satisfied.
•Serving sizes SUCK to count out. Especially with snack foods. I like to count out several serving sizes and put them in zippy bags so I can just grab and go without counting out 30 lays poppables when I’m late for work lol.
•I stayed off social media for a while and avoid “fitspo” blogs/pictures. Comparing yourself to others takes away from your journey- I made myself my own “fitspo”
•Just say no! I work at a camp and basically everyday there’s something super fattening for lunch- I bring my own. But almost everyday someone asks if I want a soda or donut and I say no and proceed to eat whatever I brought. I also space out my lunch and snack throughout the work day to make myself feel less bloated.
•Don’t drink your calories! There are supplements for EVERYTHING! For example- I love coffee, but hate black coffee. Half and half is extremely high in calories so I switched to coconut creamer which is only 10 calories for a tbsp. I also use 0 calorie sweetener which my palette adjusted to almost immediately. At starbucks I order a “Cold foam Cold brew” with two shots of espresso/ vanilla extract/ stevia. It’s 80 calories for a venti!! And it’s delicious.
•When I’m cooking I have a small notebook next to me and I add whatever ingredients I’m using as I go. This is helpful for when I’m not meal planning and have to throw something together quickly. I then add the ingredients to my fitness pal after I’m done eating.
•I like to enter my calories before eating so that I can feel guilt free afterwards. I don’t know why. This just helps me.
•I used to hate water but my new favorite thing is flavored carbonated waters from target. They are 89 cents a piece and HUGE.
•progress pictures !
•If i go over my calorie count (which I often do) I just try not to the next day. That’s it. I don’t shame myself or make myself feel bad or wallow in self pity (anymore). I just say to myself “Okay today was a treat day not a cheat day. I’ll keep going tomorrow.”
•After about 6 days of tracking/ counting calories it became habitual. I also have memorized most of my regular foods.
•Bitch stay hydrated! Your body needs water!!! Give it to her!
MOST IMPORTANTLY (I originally saw this here) Don’t save your happiness for when you’re thinner. Let yourself be happy in the moment, be PROUD of your victories even if they seem small.
I know this post was long but I just feel this overwhelming need to share this experience with people like me. People who WANT to feel better about themselves, people that CRAVE to feel healthy/ beautiful but just can’t seem to start that process or maintain that process. You can, dude. I know I haven’t been doing this for very long but I’ve never maintained this long of a streak without falling into an eating disorder or giving up. I’m really fucking proud of myself for that and I want all of you to have this feeling. I’m tearing up because it may not seem like huge progress but it really is for me. For so many reasons. Sorry for the length and the sappiness. Keep going, lads.
Edit: I want to share my progress pictures! Any idea how I can do that? Edit 2: let me know if this works lmao Edit 3: body update ❤️❤️
