Sometimes it helps to look at the weekly averages (Detailed)

Hi Guys!

I thought I’d break down a different way of looking at the data for those who struggle with the daily fluctuations as I do.

It is really frustrating at times to see drops on the scale, only to be followed with unexplained gains (even if you know they’re due to water retention, bowl contents, and other uncontrollable factors). If you look at my daily numbers below you’ll see what I mean. I’m sure many of you (if not all) experience the same thing.

What I did, was calculate my weekly average weights for the past two weeks and compared them. Here was my math:

Last 7 Weigh Ins: 157.7, 156.7, 156.8, 159.7, 160.1, 158.9, and 156.9 (Total=1106.8, Average (/7)=158.11) Previous 7 Weigh Ins: 159.1, 160.3, 161.9, 160.9, 160.4, 161.5, 159.3 (Total=1123.4, Average (/7)=160.49)

Difference=2.38 pounds lost

As you can see, my daily numbers were all over the place causing me a host of worry. However, averaging out the weekly values shows me the downward trend I expected and as CICO would have it, proves that my TDEE is indeed in line with the online calculators I’ve been using.

I hope some one finds this exercise as helpful and freeing as I did :)
