Thank you, for kicking me in the butt.

I've always wanted to be what I would call a "normal weight." A few things that have held me back in my early adulthood such as family, sports, and my job are just excuses I used to use in order to rationalize why I never looked the way I wanted to.

Family is hard to overcome when you are a young and you lean on them for food. My parents both worked shift work when I was growing up so that means they work at odd hours and to make good money they did overtime. So this lead to many, many nights where I was left to fend for myself. With the nature of their work they could never make fresh meals or prepare them. So that meant a metric ton of Microwave pizzas. (The french bread ones from Costco back in the days) I have very, very few memories as family sitting at the dinner tables and having a homemade dinner. We would also buy processed frozen dinners from Costco and 2 36 packs of soda.

I played college football as a Linemen and there was always pressure to be big in order to do well so I never had to watch my weight at all because I knew the more I weighed the more advantage I would have. Well when it ended I found myself with a huge body that didn't need to be that big anymore. It took me awhile after football to realize this but now I just want to lose weight in order to have a better life.

My Job is shift work and I do a lot of overtime so I always thought I didn't have enough time to workout. But i would have time to play video games. So I had to shift my priorities around in order start working out and watching what i eat very closely.

These eating habits lead to many different health problems by the time that I was 23. I've had 2 kidney stones from too much soda. I had my Gallbladder taken out because of the gassy foods I was eating. And recently I found out i have gout.

For the past 4 months I've been thinking about starting to lose weight more seriously then just working out every now and again. So I just wanted to say thank you for all the help to kick me in the butt. I've learned so much about weight lost since I've found this Reddit page and the resources that were laid out were extremely helpful.

Thank you all as well for the stories that keep me motivated.

20LBS down. MyFitnessPal has been a godsend. I treat it as a game and its working out so far. Good luck to everyone else on their journey!
