Welcome Back...to me...
So Ramadan was rough (my body did, actually, start showing signs of malnutrition so maybe I should not fast.) My body temperature dropped way down and my face swelled up, not good on either front. My weight loss stagnated even though I stuck to my calorie goals (1500), and so did a lot of other things.
Then I was out of town, and even though I kept my calories on track, I don't know what happened but weight loss was over for awhile.
Then I came back to work, and realized that I needed a re-set, I let my body tell me how many calories I needed for awhile. My mileage is way up with running, my metabolism is out of whack from fasting, I'm not gaining muscle when I should be from strength training...not to mention that my summer job has a lot of lifting of adult-size humans in and out of wheelchairs throughout the day. So, very physically intense! My body told me that it would prefer 2000-2200, but would settle for 1700-1800 high-quality calories with 80-100 grams of protein daily. After several weeks, my temperature is back up, things that were not moving before got moving, I was able to run a mild fever when I caught a cold this week which tells me my metabolism has recovered (I was not able to run a fever until 2 years ago, let me tell you that fevers are an important part of infection control and without them, we can have some major problems.) My weight is still the same.
I have about 8 more pounds to lose, so I'm getting ready to go back on the grind...carefully. I'm dropping my daily calories...slowly. I'd like to get my weight below 140 by the end of my summer job, and if I could make it to my goal by Labor Day that would be one nice victory to start off the school year. But August is not normally a month of victories in the school universe, so we will see.
Wish me good luck and encouragement!
