Thinking Clearer and Weight Decreasing From Quitting Sugar.
Height: 6'3
Starting Weight: 400 Lbs.
Goal Weight: 200 Lbs. - 215 Lbs.
Current Diet: Vegetables, meat, eggs, some nuts(low carb), absolutely no refined sugar or simple carbs. No Cheat Days.
Weight Loss Journey Started: Mid July 2018
I have been trying to lose weight on and off over the years, the last time I made any significant progress was in 2007/2008, at that time I lost 90LBS - 100LBS, my weight then was 316 LBS. I was exercising 5-6 times a week, my diet wasn't anything special, my method then was calorie restriction, so as long as I didn't go over my allotted amount I was okay, and I had cheat days every week or weekend.
Starting in 2009 my weight was climbing quickly, and by the end of the year I was back up to 300 LBS. In 2010 I started a new job and was working a swing shifts every 2 weeks, my eating habits just got worse from that point on. My diet from 2010 - 2018 was largely processed foods, take-out, and lots of SUGAR!!!
As of the new year in 2018 my weight hit 400 LBS, and above, my body was starting to wear down from the stress of the extra weight, and I started getting severe back pain when walking with shortness of breath. My mental state was also suffering, being diagnosed with severe depression my mood would go up and down to the point that daily tasks were becoming too much for me to handle, which in turn made my stress go through the roof.
In mid July of this year after watching this interview with Jordan Peterson I decided to try something new, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLF29w6YqXs, I have cut all refined sugars and simple carbs out of my diet, I'm only eating meats and vegetables along with low carb nuts, and also eggs, I'm not counting calories either, since starting this diet I have fallen of the wagon 2 times, one was a weekend of sugar, and another was a week of eating garbage, I have since gotten back on the horse and have been able to maintain a strict diet for 15 days straight.
Quitting Sugar:
This is by far the greatest contributing factor in my weight loss so far, and as someone who loved junk food and ate a candy bar(s) daily it was really hard at first, the first few days are difficult, but by day 4 it starts to get easier, then for some reason by day 10 my cravings spiked and that's where I failed the first 2 times giving in to my cravings.
Since cutting out sugar/carbs(bread, pasta, potatoes, corn, pizza, etc.) my weight is gradually decreasing, my back pain is starting to subside, and my depression is much more manageable at the moment, my appetite has gone down also, I'll eat 1 - 2 meals a day with a healthy snack here and there, and I'm not craving all the junk like before, which allows me to make better decisions about what I eat. My fatigue has also gone down, I'm not crashing or falling asleep in the afternoons like I was before.
Exercise:
My exercise regime consists of 30 minute walks around the neighborhood, and going to the gym in between those days, where I do 30 minutes of cardio, and 30 minutes of weight machines. I'm currently getting this done 2-3 times a week, wanting to eventually be at a minimum of at least 5 days of physical activity on a weekly basis.
