Tips for getting saucy (using sauces) and a few misc things.

One of the things I have always been shitty with is eating sauces while measuring them.

Recently I hit some solutions.

For using spreadable/pourable things :

  1. Weigh the item before use

  2. note the weight

  3. use the item

  4. weigh the item again

you now know how many grams of said sauce, without putting a plate on your tiny scales or fucking about with stuff.

An improvement :

  1. Put the item on your scale

  2. Turn on the scale/press the 0 button to set the scale to zero, despite the weight of what is on your scale

  3. Use the item

  4. Check the (negative) weight. Ex : your ketchup weighs 200g. The display when you set your scale to zero is (no shit) 0g. Use your ketchup, then put it back on the scale. The scale now reads "-13g". You have used 13g worth of ketchup.

"But Yerba" you say, "how does this help me make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches?!".

Almost the exact same way.

  1. Put the item on the scale,note the weight

  2. leave it on the scale as you scoop out however much you're going to put in a sandwich

  3. note the weight after use.

Tadaa!

Another thing. Are you going to scoop something out of a container, then eat it? Weigh the scoop, scoop out whetever it is you're getting, and weigh the scoop with the whatever in it.

For choosing sauces, remember that sauces drastically vary in calories. Ketchup (can be) roughly 1 calorie per gram. Mayonnaise can be about 6 calories per gram. Shop around! Garlic paste in a tube can be delightful!

Random unrelated tip :

Rice is the cheapest carb source, and easy to eat. It's also a pain to get right and clean up after. Pasta is about 5 times as expensive, but SO MUCH EASIER for the same effort. If you're finding rice difficult, seriously, just give up and use pasta. If I knew that I could get cheap, 3 minute pasta for 90p for 500g , I would have stuck to my budget a lot easier than absolutely hating cooking rice and cleaning up after it.
