How to cope with after meal hunger?

I just started counting calories and found I can eat 1300-1400 calories a day to lose weight. I made a casserole earlier in the day and ate it for lunch and leftovers for dinner. I stayed within my calorie range, but I got hungrier sooner than later after this meal. I ended up going over my number by eating a ton of snacks tonight to fill up. Not to proud since I went crazy and now I don’t feel good. I thought this was going to be a healthy, filling meal, but I’m not going to make it again because of this reason. Any advice out there for filling up after eating empty calories? Any foods you find to be especially filling? Also how much time do you give yourselves between eating dinner and going to bed? I know pounds pack on if you go to sleep immediately after dinner!
