Rant about counting calories
I gained 40lbs in the last 2 years after starting University. I hate the way I look now and I'm finally dedicated enough to change it. As we all know, CICO is the best way to lose weight, so that's what I've been trying. I live in Ontario and most restaurants legally have to list the calorie amounts, which makes it so much easier since you can choose items that fit into your calories and you know exactly what's in the food you're eating. Except my University doesn't list the calorie amounts for anything. The head nutritionist thinks that counting calories promotes unhealthy eating habits and wants everyone on campus to use "intuitive eating". Now I'm sure that works for some people, but people who have an unhealthy relationship with food and don't know how much they should be eating on their own need things like calorie counting to develop healthy eating habits. And it's not like the food is all healthy, or even mostly healthy. You can buy basic salads or plain veggies, but everything else they sell is junk food. So there does need to be a limit to how much of it you're eating, but you can't know when you've reached that limit because there's no nutrition information available. I've considered just not eating on campus anymore, but I'm there for so long every day with no fridge or anything, so bringing a meal is difficult. Plus I have a lot left on my student meal plan, so I have to use it up anyways. It's just so frusturating that people think CICO is some crash diet. Even a professional thinks this!
