NSV: gaining back flexibility!

backstory: i was a serious dancer as a kid/teenager, and had excellent flexibility along with a toned figure (ahh, youth, why did i take you for granted)... but gave up dancing around 17 years old when life kicked in.

anyway, fast forward 15 years, lots of life, and 50+ pounds, and i started working on my health/fitness in december with about 45 lbs to lose, after two pretty years of depression, binge eating, & sedentary lifestyle.

i’m still struggling a lot to build healthier/non-emotional food habits so have only lost 3 pounds so far, but i’ve been going to the gym 5 days a week with varied workouts i’m feeling pretty good about. lots of cardio, weights, plyometric, and yoga depending on the day.

well today, almost out of nowhere i was able to do a full split on my right side!! it wasn’t even a goal i had in my mind, but as i was stretching after cardio i just thought i was feeling pretty loose and great, eased into it really slowly, and bam! piece of (calorie free) cake!!!

we’ll see how long it takes my left side to catch up, and this isn’t really my primary goal, but it feels good to see there’s a dancer’s strong healthy body buried in there that i can maybe uncover with lots of hard work!!
