NSV : Today I ran a 12 minute mile

To those of us on a slower path, to those of us that are older, to those of us that just keep going despite what the scale says, today I bring you a very short story of my life/day.

I'm 46 years old, I've run many marathons in the past, I got obese. There's a LOOOONG story of why I ate to excess, drank to excess, but that's not important. I got fat.

Today, I ran a race. Today I weighed in at 38 lbs of loss. Today I felt happy for what I did and have been doing.

I wasn't the fastest, I walked a bunch. I self-ied. I ran a 12:04 minute mile. I finished a 5 mile race in 59:58. And I'm fucking giddy.

I'm old(er), I'm on a 1lb (or less) loss plan per week and I exercise when physical body pain (old injuries) allow me too.

Today was the best I've felt about myself in years. YEARS. Every day that I try the scale and I see no loss, I get so discouraged, and I feel ya, its hard to know you're doing the work, doing the exercise, tracking every single damn calorie, and see nothing. Specially for us older ladies, as we don't just drop weight like our younger selves.

I ran a race. I ran the best I could, I surprised myself. I put in the effort, hard work, time, and sweat. I finally have something to show for it.

Do I still have a long way to go, ya betcha, but today I'm going to recognize what I've done. Instead of focusing on what I need to do. So today, how about you recognize an accomplishment you've done to be better.
