TDEE for hypothyroid folks?
Hey guys, I was just wondering if there was an accurate way at all to account for hypothyroidism when estimating BMR?
According to tdeecalculator.net, my BMR is around 1550 and I should be eating 1900 calories a day for maintenance (with sedentary lifestyle). So I have it set for 1400 calories and I’m just wondering if I should go lower because I have very little thyroid function. I’m on synthroid after a partial thyroidectomy and my levels are usually okay. I know thyroid disease can lower BMR but I have no idea by how much.
I’ve lost 30 pounds but it was through a keto diet with no calorie counting. In the end, that diet was unsustainable for me, so I’m doing CICO now in the hopes of really getting to know myself and beat my issues with food.
Do any other thyroid patients have some insight? Should I just see how the 1400/day goes and adjust from there? Is this really THAT big of an issue for thyroid patients trying to lose weight? TIA!
Edit-sorry for formatting. I’m on mobile.
