Long term progress, aka "Muscle is important, y'all!"
Tl;dr I lost weight with diet, figured my body shape was just "wrong" to reach my goals, gave up, backslid (not pictured), started building muscle, got to my goal body/figure at 12lbs above my prior low weight. It's not all about weight, muscle is important guys!
The road so far:
I have been trying to get to my "dream body" since 2016. I was never super out of shape but here up on a farm eating farmers portions and rarely working out. In college I was around 175lbs (5'9"), but lived in LA and was very insecure about my body image. I took initiative, decided to hit the gym, and learned to lift by following a program from bodybuilding.com with little video tutorials for every lift. It was great! Once I felt confident with fitness but my weight stayed steady, I realized I was eating more and I had to control my diet too. I put all my efforts into that... A huge task as I'm a food L.O.V.E.R. both flavor and volume. I finally got a meal plan and was able to avoid high calorie low nutrient foods, but at the cost of the gym. I was going maybe once a week but I had the diet on lock and pounds came off! I graduated and moved back home, skipping the gym entirely but keeping the diet.
One day in mid 2017 I realized my "maybe someday in a perfect world" goal of 135lbs had come and gone, I was weighing in at 133lbs. But I didn't have the body I wanted. I was so disappointed. I didn't want to keep losing, I was tired of militant dieting, and felt like I simply didn't have the right body shape. I gave up and stopped watching my diet. I gained weight up to 165 again in early 2018.
Que my boyfriend, a weightlifter, ripping me a new one after a day of me bitching about my body and looks. He took me with him to the gym and got me back into lifting. I've lost back to 145 and at 12lbs over my lowest I look the way I wanted. It's a good damn relief! My body isn't flawed, my methods are!
But yeah, lifting makes you bulky 😜
