Amalgamation in Onederland
Quite frankly, I thought today would never come. There was a point where I was getting frequent injections into my knees because the fluid behind the caps had been ground down into nothing. It was bone on bone. Of course, it's never going to regenerate and we'd just be doing this rather painful procedure again and again. The last time I visited was...well, the last time I visited and that was well over a year ago, so suffice it to say I'm getting a bit more mileage out of the gel.
There was a point when 2XL shirts became tight and surely - SURELY - it was that damn dryer. I set it too high, right? Stuff shrinks. Even stuff that is specifically made to NOT shrink. I remember the day a while back where I realized that I needed 3XL shirts because I didn't have any that actually fit. In my head, it wasn't any big deal. I was just buying new clothes. Now, I've bought myself darn near a new wardrobe as I've dropped at least two shirt sizes depending on the brand and several pant sizes.
There was a time when I didn't want to be in pictures. Seeing myself was a reminder of the reality of it all. I had a smile or two and a couple were even genuine. But going back and looking at them was a chore at best and depressing at worst. I could feel my skeleton creaking, my vital organs must've been choking and my hunger was never satiated. At times, hunger was my only friend. I've been battling that for about three decades now.
Fortunately, I can now say my relationship with food is starting to change. I still enjoy all the carbs some days, but it's largely about fueling myself up to rock the gym or play basketball or what have you.
I don't remember the last time I was under 200 pounds. I can tell you it was in my teens and not my late teens, either. Being a bit over 300 still doesn't seem that long ago and, in relation, it definitely was far more recent. However, the trek to get to this point has very much been a journey and one I look back on fondly, even with the hiccups. There's still more road to walk and I look forward to the new milestones.
But this is a major one and I can honestly say I will never forget it.
