Weird weight gain?
Hey everyone,
When quarantine started, I got the Peloton on demand membership and a spin bike, it's not as fancy as a real Peloton but that wasn't in the budget just yet. So I've been using the on demand classes and my bike to do my cardio, and resistance bands to do my "weight lifting". I've been doing this for about 6 weeks and I love spin classes, I never thought I would, but I do! They're so difficult but so fun. In the gym I used to do the elliptical mainly so it's a nice change of pace. But. I'm gaining weight. I've put on 5-7lbs this month. Now I'm pretty experienced in fitness so let me put all this out here first. - yes I know it's real weight gain, it's not a fluctuation, this is a continually showing gain, daily, constant, it has been steadily going up throughout the time doing the classes, it's also always there, doesn't come and go certain days. - yes it is fat gain and not muscle, I know this because of body measurements as well as clothes fitting - and I know everyone will say diet, but I meticulously track my food and I have not changed my diet at all from when I was working out in the gym and I'm doing the same amount of cardio per day/week as when I was in the gym, as well as resistance training. Nothing has changed.
Has anyone ever gained weight from doing spin? I almost wonder if it's too intense and making my body hold fat? Like too much stress? I would consider the cardio I used to do in the gym to be low intensity steady state, maybe medium intensity. I would do the elliptical at a steady pace for an hour while watching a show or talking with someone, no intervals and I wasn't out of breath dying. I thought doing this super difficult class workouts, with sweat pouring off of me, would have weight pouring off of me as well. And this really doesn't seem to be the case.
I'm quite discouraged and not sure where to go next. I was doing 2 30 min classes a day, 4-5x a week, and then just riding for an hour while watching a show the other days to stay active. Now I've reduced it to 1 30 min class a day 5x a week and just riding the other half of that hour, worrying that maybe it was too much. Maybe I need to go back to more? If anyone has any thoughts, I'd love to hear.
Thanks in advance!
