(F, 20, 165cm SW: 70kg CW: 74kg GW: 54kg) How should I slim down so that I fit into my clothes again

I used to be around 50kg in 2019 but when covid hit my activity went down and my weight went up and now that people are getting out of the house more I am expected to get out my pjs and go places. But there’s only one problem. I literally don’t fit into 80% of the clothes in my wardrobe.

Now I know an easy fix would just be to buy more clothes but I don’t have that kind of money and besides I need to get my eight under control ASAP before it gets worse and keeps going up.

I have started going to the gym so I can accomplish just that, but doing so means I have to teach myself a lot about fitness and maintaining health.

I’m working towards maintaining a calorie deficit but in regard to gym I’m not sure what will work better cardio or weight training.

Everywhere I have searched people say weight training helps you lose fat faster and gain muscle, but I don’t wanna get bulk and not fit into my clothes still, I want to slim down and strengthen up. And fit into my clothes!!

So how should I go about it? Should I be avoiding weights and sticking to cardio?
