Does anyone else have rules and a reward system?

This is more written up for my benefit, I'll be copying this down later and putting it on my fridge lol. It'll probably be long, if you read through it and wanna let me know what you do or have some suggestions, feel free!

I do well when I have small goals I can work towards and that earn me rewards (like achievements in video games) as well as some rules, so that's what I've decided to do.

Quick stats: 28 | F | 5'0 | SW: 231.4 lbs | CW: 210 lbs | start date: May 17th, 2021

Goals:

  • 220 lbs - June 21st, 2021 - two new books ($20)
  • 210 lbs (high school weight) - August 9th, 2021 - concert ticket for end of October ($50)
  • 200 lbs (by end of October)
  • 190 lbs (by New Years)

More goals to follow in this manner. Goal weight of 150 lbs (I'd be very happy here), with an ultimate goal weight of 120 lbs (something to continue to work towards but I'd be fine staying at 150)

Rules:

  • 1200 - 1500 calories/day - try to stick to 1200, but anything under 1500 is fine.
  • 5 meals a day (try to eat around the same time every day) - three meals and two snacks - I ate one large meal a day most of my adult life so eating smaller meals more frequently is different for my body and has been working well for me.
  • Drink at least one 16 oz glass of water every time I eat.
  • Walk dog 3-4x/day for at least 20 min each (chronic migraines and weather allowing).
  • "Cheat" meal on Saturdays - can have up to 2,000 calories that day but only if I've been "good" the previous week - this includes staying under 1500 calories/day and logging everything I eat daily.
  • Fasting Sundays - Bathroom habits have changed and I like a more accurate weigh in so this helps, still experimenting with how long.
  • Weigh in Mondays - record every weigh in, no matter if its up or down.
  • Limit visits to parents - they enable me so as much as I miss seeing them as often, it's better for me to stay away until I can learn to say no better. (When I do visit I must bring my own food!)
  • "Goodies" are to be bought only when not on sale (to prevent from buying multiples, I'm stingy) and only as needed (so I have to go to the store to get it and its not just on hand).
  • Special occasions - holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. are to be treated as "limited" cheat days. This means I can go up to the 2,000 calorie limit of a normal cheat day, but I have to make better choices and still weigh and log everything. (Ex: try mashed cauliflower vs. potatoes at Thanksgiving, choose a smaller portion or healthier options at a restaurant for a birthday dinner, bring my own frozen yogurt, non-dairy ice cream, cake etc.)

Rules to be added to/changed as I go and find what does and doesn't work for me.

Rewards:

Every 10 lbs lost I get a reward. These rewards are meant to be smaller in value, but some may be more for larger milestones. These are in no particular order and are just examples.

Books, video games, ear piercings, a tattoo, Chinese food for dinner (obsessed lol), day out with my mom, concert, trip to see an old friend, clothes shop, movie at the theater, look into adopting another dog (this would be only to start looking, I've wanted a second for about a year and haven't allowed myself to even look as I know I wouldn't be physically capable of handling two, this would likely be a near-ultimate-goal-weight reward and conditionally on whether or not it still made sense with my lifestyle and I could fulfill that life long commitment), air fryer, some kind of class (preferably something to do with a new hobby - guitar lessons? pottery? yoga? etc.)

I like this list, it really helped sort some stuff out in my head while I wrote this. This is all of course subject to change as I continue on this journey and find what works for me. Hoping this will help it really stick this time. I don't know if it'll help anyone else, but maybe it will, or maybe someone can suggest something to help me. Good luck to us all.
