Just had a bizarre interaction with my neighbor
This is most likely a Japan specific thing. People love to comment on anyones weight here. It is just the norm. And I’ve accepted it. But I just had a bizarre interaction. Last week, a woman in my neighborhood flagged me down and said “I used to weigh 105kg too!” completely unprompted. I was taken aback and on my way to work so I was just like uhhh okay? And walked away.
BUT TODAY!!!! I SAW HER AGAIN!!!! And she goes “I used to be fat too. But I lost the weight last year. But actually, I want to be fat again! Fat people look friendlier. You are a cutie. Sooo cute.” And I just kind of laughed and said thank you and walked away hiding my embarrassment because lots of my neighbors just saw this interaction.
I mean.. I guess it’s a lot nicer than other comments I’ve gotten but I still feel so ????? Is my identity forever going to be the fat foreigner to these people??? Why is commenting on peoples weight so okay here I do not know I am so embarrassed and just wanted to talk about it.
I hope I still look friendly when I lose 40kg
