I somehow managed to still lose weight during a 2 week visit with my Italian family.
I went to visit my family back in my hometown for two weeks and I stayed with my mum the entire time. We are Italian, which means that gatherings revolve around way too much food that always involves carbs, meat, and cheese. Before I went for my visit, I was terrified at the thought of overeating and gaining weight. Anyone who is Italian or has been around Italians knows that it’s always “mangia, mangia!” and they don’t take no for an answer.
I prepared myself before I went there. I made sure to bring all of my normal everyday foods that I eat myself (it’s a small town, so they usually don’t have some of the stuff I use regularly), and I set out a rough meal plan for while I was there. I prepared my mum and told her to not take offence if I wasn’t eating a lot of what she made, or if I didn’t eat a lot at family get togethers. I told her I would be going for a walk/run most nights once my kids were in bed.
It WORKED, and I’m still flabbergasted. I did have a bunch of “cheat days” while I was there, I drank alcohol, I ate desserts, I enjoyed myself. But I was still careful to track my calories, and I went for a walk/run every second night I was there. I just did my normal Sunday weigh in, and I lost 1.1 kg over the two weeks.
I am ECSTATIC!
