Question on if I’m doing something wrong here?
I was someone who at one time couldn’t do more than 30 minutes on an elliptical. Over time, I increased my minutes on the elliptical. As someone who was at one point weighing during the pandemic 226-230 lbs (6’0), I was losing quite a few calories on the machine count by going around an hour per workout. Eventually, I kept increasing that time and got it to 2-2.5 hours per workout on the elliptical. I always went medium to high intensity and at first, I probably went like 2-3 times a week. Probably anything more than that and I get sore... right?! Well, 2-3 times a week definitely worked as months went by. I dropped from like 226 to 210.
Now over the past 2 or 3 months, the interesting thing is that my elliptical workouts have stayed at that 2h-2.5h range but I’ve been going 5-6 times a week. My weight has gone from 210-215ish to 196 now and I’ve been very happy with the results. I had basically been burning anywhere from 1300-1800 calories per those 2h-2.5h workouts considering my 200ish+ lb weight, and that didn’t count my walking throughout the day where the steps can sometimes exceed 15,000-20,000. Now remember the thing about being sore? I feel like I go for these 2-2.5h a day with moderate to high intensity every single day for 5-6x a week and the thing is, at this point of having done this for months on end, I just don’t feel sore at all even though I’m running like 9-11.5 miles a day. Idk man ¯\(ツ)/¯
My question is, if these exercises aren’t making me sore and I’m able to go on the elliptical at this rate, is it okay to continue my weekly routine or is it dangerous? I feel like my body has really adapted to this longer exercise and as a result I’m both not feeling sore and also burning a ton of pounds in short periods. When it comes to diet, what also helped with my weight was cutting soda, choc milk, sweets from my diet.. I stay hydrated, eat how I want, and get plenty of rest/sleep..anyway, my question just was, is anything that I’m doing dangerous for me and is it normal to adopt to such long workouts and so often ? I also have now started various strength dumbbell exercises to this 2-2.5h moderate to high intensity cardio on elliptical so I am at the gym like 5-6x a week for 3h at a time and even the dumbbells/lifting after the first couple of sessions, I don’t really feel sore even after increasing dumbbell sizes and doing way more reps/sets... Is there a reason I’m not really feeling sore from any of this? I mean, I’m not complaining.. but still!
