Reading / tips for compulsive overeating and cravings?
If you’ve had success conquering binge eating, compulsive overeating, or food addiction, what books or resources helped the most?
I lost 50 lbs on keto a few years ago and have gained 20 back. I have an addictive relationship with sugar and processed carbs - it’s really hard to moderate. I compulsively clean my plate (even huge restaurant portions) and if we’re lingering at the table, if there’s food I WILL keep munching. I eat when I’m not hungry. I don’t know how to stop when I’m full. If I’m “on sugar/carbs” that can add up to thousands of extra calories in a snap (I’m looking at you, entire bags of chips and plates of brownies).
Practically speaking, for me the answer is probably to return to keto long enough to reset, then add back complex carbs but strictly avoid or restrict sugar and processed carbs potentially forever. (That’s for me, not for everyone.)
But I also feel like I need to do some mental / inner work related to this. Not only for my own health, but because I see the beginnings of these habits in my kids and want to help them before it’s a problem. Just like my relationship with alcohol, the first step was to change the behavior but it only clicked when I also changed my mindset. What helped you change your brain?
