Feeling Good This Time

Hi all, I (17M) have had 3 failed attempts to lose weight over the past 2 years, currently I am around 265lbs and have been on a diet for the past 2 months. My highest recorded weight was 275lbs which was a few months ago and after a doctor's appointment regarding high blood pressure and several meetings with a dietician I feel like I have a better approach this time. My original approach was to focus all of my time on dieting (I hate exercise) and losing as much weight in the shortest time possible. As you would expect these attempts only lasted a few months and only dropped anywhere between 10-20 lbs. Anyway my new approach is to not care as much, as weird as it may seem, I am currently not paying too much attention to what I eat, eating pretty much whatever whenever. The biggest thing that I am focusing on this time is what I am drinking, I am a huuuuge soda drinker, have been as long as I can remember so limiting my intake of soda has been great so far (1-2 2L bottles to stretch from Friday to Sunday) and has really made a massive impact on my appetite. What I can take from this compared to my past attempts is that you absolutely cannot efficiently view being on a diet as something that is a temporary routine and that you need to ease into eating healthy, missing this point really ruined my first few attempts as I essentially had starved myself and thought I wouldn't need to eat healthy after I had lost the weight. Other than that, the biggest thing is going easy on yourself when you go against your healthy ways sometimes. I feel like so many people eat one unhealthy thing or drink some soda without thinking and immediately throw everything away and just go back to their unhealthy habits. The ABSOLUTE BIGGEST thing that has helped me so far mentally, is that my dietician pointed out to me that sugar is a highly addictive substance and you can't punish yourself for not being able to control temptation when losing weight is quite literally another form of battling an addiction. That was a bit of a rant but hopefully this can help someone.

TL;DR

It isn't your fault if you slip up, sugar is one hell of a drug.
