Have you ever got in touch with the doctor about weight loss?

I've been trying to lose weight for a long while and I have highs and lows with it, but ultimately I keep going back to my high weight. I think it's heavily linked to my mental health, so while I do know what to do to lose it healthily, if I am struggling with stress or anxiety I comfort eat and just can't find the energy to pull myself out of it.

I'm thinking about getting in touch with my doctor and talking about maybe seeing a dietitian to support me, and maybe speak to somebody about my mental health (I've had CBT and it helped ease it a bit, but I'm still struggling).

Has anybody else been in a similar boat, and when you went to the doctors, what happened? I'm worried about them just spending the whole meeting explaining just how big I am and the side effects of that (all of which I really am aware of) and it'll set me into a shame spiral (which has happened before when seeing a nurse about the pill) rather than helping to support me out of it. What can they really do to help? (I really don't want to try medication for it if I can help it.)
