I know people mean well, but I hate the false assurances they give when you lose weight.
“You’re not fat” - I know you’re trying to be nice, but I have a scale and a mirror. I know what a healthy BMI is, and I know objectively that I’m not in it. Just be straight with me.
“You don’t need to lose weight” - If a smoker told you they were going to quit smoking, would you tell them they don’t need to?
“I love your before picture” - Thanks. It’s not like I’ve been making a concerted effort to look and feel better than that.
“If you’re not able to lose weight, you should know you’re beautiful the way you are” - Thanks for the vote of confidence that you feel like you need to reassure me about failing to lose weight before it’s even began.
I love and appreciate how kind people are trying to be when they give these assurances, but I’d rather people be real and encourage me to make good choices instead of giving me false assurances that everything is fine. It’s what you would do if I was improving my health any other way.
